Why did Feisty end?
- TOP

Feisty came to a close at the end of 2004 because of its regular DJ emigrating from England. This site remains as an archive of the show, including playlists, MP3s of featured interviews and links to other sites in a similar groove.

Is there an online archive of the shows? - TOP

Sadly, no. Bradford Community Broadcasting was only able to offer live streaming during the year of broadcast and, for copyright reasons, full shows cannot be archived here. However, several audio interviews with bands are available for download at this site and some of the music featured on the show is available as MP3s from band's own sites - check our playlists section for details.

What was the playlist policy?
- TOP

Feisty's aim was to promote women music-makers, especially those working in a broadly indie/alternative vein and who were not signed to major labels. As the show's name suggests, tracks with bite, attitude and a punky edge were favoured. The playlist generally restricted itself to original music written and performed by female artists. While accoustic tracks figured on occasion, electric was very much the norm.

Any tips on how my band can get on the radio?

There are some suggestions on trying to secure airplay below and you'll find details of similar radio shows to Feisty in our
links section.

-

Do your research. Don't be too speculative to start with - find details of radio shows that your music definitely seems to fit with, listen to them and/or check past playlists. If you have a demo rather than a full release, try and assess if the show will play demos.

-

When you submit music, send your CD with any shrink wrap removed (makes life easier for lazy/busy DJs).

-

Add brief written information about your band and its music - ideally an eye-catching single sheet, including a photo, band logo, etc. Tailoring this sheet to the show and DJ is always a plus, e.g. adding a note of any tracks you particularly think would fit the playlist. This will help a DJ feel that you've taken an interest in their particular programme and also gives a pointer to where they might start listening.

-

Don't forget to include a phone number / e-mail address / website details for the band plus details of any dates you have coming up in the show's area of coverage.

-

Don't expect immediate results - be prepared to accept that your CD may stay in a pile for a while. If you do decide to follow up a CD you've sent, don't let yourself appear be over pushy.

-

Whatever happens, believe in yourself and your music. If other people don't get it, that's their loss!
